The last New Years my boyfriend and I spent in England. We stayed at a wonderful old english country house in Horsington, Somerset. It was a dream come true! Wonderful people and great food. Just the weather didn’t play along. But because the house was so nice and big, we just got cosy inside.

The theme for New Years night was “hat party”. Not owning any hats at all, I didn’t really want to go and buy one. So I decided to make one myself. At the end I am not really sure if you call this a hat, I am absolutly no hat expert.

So I started on X-Mas to go through my moms treasure boxes. I found some black cloth and some white feltlike hard material for the core of the hat. The flowers and net lace I had to buy.

The white material I used to cut out the pattern of the hat. I sewed the oval top to the straight edge. The black material was used to sew the cover for the hat. After that, only the flowers and the net lace had to be attached. Little loops on the bottom edge of the hat allow you to attach to your head with hairslides.

And lucky me I found a dress that goes with it too :-)

To be honest, I am not really a big fan of Burda patterns. But despite that I am still buying the pattern magazine regularly, only to look through them twice and then put them on my Burda pile. I hardly sew anything from them, because I am not really convinced of most of the patterns.

These pants I liked a lot and I bought extra soft material for it. The pattern is from the german Burda magazine 11/2012. Although I already extended the pattern a little, the pants could still be a little longer. With my overlock sewing machine the sewing was relativley easy and quick. I think I will make another pair with some lighter material for spring/summer.
